Oh man! Every wreath slows down the memory

Small addendum to commemorate the popular uprising of June 17, 1953. 70 years ago, steelworkers from Hennigsdorf also moved to the center of Berlin to demonstrate.

Not only against increased workload, but also for free elections and against the unjust regime of the communists. I found that out now through a memorial in Tegel.

Many wreaths were laid there on Berliner Strasse for the anniversary. I drove past the relatively inconspicuous Stehle umpteen times. It was only through the wreaths and colored wreath ribbons that I became aware of the memorial not far from the former Borsig site.

You can see how important the commemoration and the symbolism are. The wreaths are not only a badge of honour, but also an eye-catcher.

Some people find such rituals silly and outdated. Not me. Wreath-laying keeps important events and people alive.

Time flies so fast and oblivion is always on the heels of memory. Wreaths ensure that oblivion does not overtake memory.
