After losing to Union
The Executive Committee of Hertha BSC, together with the Supervisory Board, decided to release Sporting Director Fredi Bobic with immediate effect. This was announced by the capital club after the defeat in the Berlin derby against Union Berlin on Saturday evening. Hertha, who are in acute relegation trouble after a catastrophic start to the 2023 football year, invited to a press conference at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Bobic, who also sits on the supervisory board of the German Football League (DFL), returned to his former professional position as sports boss in June 2021, succeeding long-time manager Michael Preetz. Ex-national striker Bobic had previously successfully pulled the strings at Eintracht Frankfurt. On the other hand, the 51-year-old was not able to record any lasting success in Berlin. Last year, the club only just managed to stay up in the Bundesliga relegation against HSV.
Hertha BSC had invested 34.3 million euros in new signings in the Bobic era, which is offset by income of 77.3 million euros from player sales. After 18 of 34 league games, the “Old Lady” occupies a disappointing 17th place, and is currently two points away from being relegated.
