Officially confirmed: Screenplay for “Peaky Blinders” spin-off is almost finished

Peaky Blinders producer Steven Knight recently confirmed he’s almost done writing a feature-length spin-off film. He also commented on the development process of the film.

“Surprising” new faces

Speaking on The Heart Breakfast Show with Jamie Theakston and Zoe Hardman, Knight revealed the film will feature “surprising” new faces. “Yes, I’m writing it now. I’m almost done writing it and we’re going to shoot it… I’m setting up some film and TV studios at Digbeth in Birmingham. We will be shooting the film at Digbeth studios and on location at Digbeth in Birmingham. Digbeth and Small Heath are where the Peaky Blinders actually roamed. So it’s basically like Peaky coming home,” he said. Also, when asked if the characters will be portrayed by new people, he added, “Of course, and some new faces that hopefully will be quite surprising.”

Spin-0ff is inspired by World War II

The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders ended in April of this year. Knight previously confirmed that a feature film is in the works that will tell a “very special story” based “on a true event from World War II.” Actor Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby on the series, said in June that he would like to continue his role in the spin-off. “I would be as excited as anyone to read a script. But I think it’s good for everyone to take a little break. That’s always a healthy thing and then we can regroup. Steve is an incredibly busy and in-demand writer, but I know he absolutely loves writing Peaky. So I think when the time comes and there’s another story to tell, I’ll be there,” he revealed.

Filming will start in 2023

Filming is scheduled to start in 2023. “I hope that we will start filming within 18 months. But I’m really looking forward to having a Peaky event where people can watch the film together. The social media community is so strong and people are talking to each other. But actually being physically together is going to be really interesting,” Knight said.
