The clerk, the highest official of the House of Representatives, and the four other members of the management team have just resigned with immediate effect. That is what Registrar Simone Roos writes, in an email to all “Room residents”, who is in possession of NRC.
Roos writes: “In recent weeks, political and media attention has increasingly focused on civil servants, including in articles containing factual inaccuracies and questioning the integrity of these civil servants, including my own. As is well known, civil servants cannot defend themselves against this in the media. It is therefore unacceptable, in my view, for officials to be drawn into a public and political debate in this way. I regret that, despite my urging requests, the political leadership seems to have taken too little action on this.”
As the new registrar, Roos, together with housing director Jaap van Rhijn, expressed concerns about the working climate in April 2019. The two did this in conversation with two vice-presidents of the House of Representatives. Jaap van Rhijn (housing director), Jorine Wolff (head of HR staff service) and Peter van Wensem (head of communication staff), and corporate lawyer Jan Punt will also resign with immediate effect.
