Chelsea are bringing back their former team manager Frank Lampard as an interim solution. The long-time English international will take over the coaching position at the Premier League club until the end of the season, according to media reports the Londoners confirmed on Thursday.
Chelsea are still looking for a successor following the sacking of Graham Potter after just seven months in office. Most recently, ex-Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann was traded, and former Spanish national coach Luis Enrique was also said to be on the list.
Club owner: “Stable plan for the rest of the season”
Club owner Todd Boehly was quoted as saying that the “thorough and detailed process” for the replacement of the position is continuing: “Meanwhile we want to offer the club and the fans a clear and stable plan for the rest of the season.” Lampard is a “legend of the club” and has all the necessary qualities.
The 44-year-old takes over the team around German international Kai Havertz. Lampard had been on the touchline at Chelsea from the start of the 2019/20 season until early 2021. At the end of January 2023 he was released from Everton FC. At Chelsea, after the Potter separation, the Spaniard Bruno Saltor took over as interim coach.
