A wolf was killed on the A2 between Howem and Kelpen-Oler in Limburg on Sunday morning. The young wolf was found dead on the hard shoulder of the highway, animal police said.
Around 8:15 a.m., a motorist reported to the police with the suspicion that he had hit something, a Rijkswaterstaat spokesperson said on Sunday. The police and Rijkswaterstaat found the dead female. The game warden of the municipality of Leudal was called in, who confirmed that it was a wolf. The animal was taken to Wageningen University & Research. There, DNA research is used to find the origin of the wolf.
Big pack
The wolf Sunday in Limburg is the fourth to die in traffic this year. A wolf died on the A2 near Vught on Friday, earlier this year wolves were killed near Beesd in Gelderland and Hoogersmilde in Drenthe.
It is the third time since Friday that wolves have made the news. In the northern part of the Veluwe, a wildlife camera saw a pack of eleven wolves passing by. Never before have so many wolves been seen in one pack.
A wildlife camera in the North Veluwe captured a pack of eleven wolves at the end of January. Experts call the fact that so many are in the picture at the same time unique.
