Off the dream! Bayern’s CL journey ends in London

The dream of a treble has burst: Bayern Munich’s footballers missed the semi-finals of the Champions League. In the rain in London, the Bundesliga leaders lost the second leg of the quarter-finals at Arsenal deservedly 0: 2 (0: 2), Frida Maanum with a dream goal (20th) and Stina Blackstenius with a header (26th) scored for the Gunners. Bayern, on the other hand, had almost no chance.

The team coached by Alexander Straus hoped in vain to advance to the next round after the 1-0 win in the first leg. Arsenal now meets VfL Wolfsburg or Paris St. Germain.

Four days after the 1-0 win against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga’s top game, Bayern got off to a nervous start, making a few unnecessary mistakes, with Arsenal being the more active team. Maanum’s lead from a distance was just as nice as it was deserved, Tuva Hansen had made a careless bad pass in the build-up game.

FC Bayern had previously kept seven competitive games without conceding a goal, but the setback was not a wake-up call. The English runners-up, on the other hand, were wide awake and played with a lot of power, so Blackstenius extended the lead before the break. Goalkeeper Maria Grohs prevented even worse with strong saves.

FC Bayern’s offensive hardly takes place

Bayern’s offensive with national team players Lea Schüller and Klara Bühl worked their way into the game better over time, but the hosts continued to create clearer chances. However, Caitlin Foord (74th) awarded freestanding.

Wolfsburg, the second German team, will fight against Paris on Thursday (6.45 p.m. / DAZN) to get into the next round. The Wolves won the first leg in the Prinzenpark 1-0.

FC Barcelona beat AS Roma in the second quarter-final on Tuesday. After the 1-0 in the first leg, the Catalans easily won the second leg 5-1 (3-0).
