Australian professional cyclist Ben O’Connor has won the third stage of the 101st Tour of Catalonia and taken the lead in the overall standings.

All previous stage wins in Spain have gone to Australians. Second on Wednesday was local hero Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) ahead of Colombian Nairo Quintana (Team Arkea-Samsic).

In the same order, the three best of the day now also lead the overall ranking. The fourth stage on Thursday takes the field over 166.7 km from La Seu d’Urgell to Boi Taüll. The tour ends in Barcelona on Sunday.
