Due to the cyber attack, the systems of the OCMW, which did not respond to the ransom demand, were blocked for a long time. The center hired a specialized company to investigate the cause and consequences of the attack. There would have been no large-scale data theft, “but the hackers were able to view data of staff members and Ukrainians helped by the OCMW. It concerns their identity documents,” he said.
According to ‘La Nouvelle Gazette’, the perpetrators are said to have viewed the passports of Ukrainian refugees en masse. According to a reliable source, the first attacks on the systems would also have taken place much earlier than suspected, probably as early as May.
The OCMW announces that it is taking the necessary safety measures. The Ukrainians involved have been informed and police are continuing to investigate the incident, the center said.
