Ocean Race | “I’m so happy”: Boris Herrmann celebrates second place

The best atmosphere on board the Malizia Seaexplorer: The team around skipper Boris Herrmann took second place in the interim ranking of the king’s stage of the Ocean Race and was very satisfied with it after the serious problems at the start.

“I’m so happy that we crossed the line in second. We pushed really hard and this place means a lot to us as a team,” said Herrmann, who moved up with his crew to third place out of five teams in the overall standings . Ahead of Malizia are the 11th Hour Racing Team (USA) and Holcim-PRB (Switzerland) en route from Cape Town to Itajai in Brazil.

Malizia had lost a sail on the first days of the third of seven stages that started on February 26th and had to repair a crack in the mast at great expense, but recovered well. “We found the balance and the boat sails surprisingly well in these conditions,” said Herrmann.

As of Monday morning, the four remaining boats in the leg were south of Tasmania. They still had around 7,500 of 12,750 nautical miles to go before they reached their destination.
