Let’s clean up
But it’s not just ocean festivals. For 10 years Healthy Seas has been involved in cleaning the seabed from abandoned nets and other materials used for fishing, thanks to the work of volunteer divers. According to UN estimates, more than 580 million kilos of fishing gear is dumped into the oceans each year. All very dangerous objects for the fish, which remain imprisoned in them.
The goal of Healthy Seas and its partners, including Hyundai who began his collaboration with an intervention in Ithaca two years ago, is not only to lend a hand to solve the problem of pollution by cleaning up the seas, but also to regenerate the nets and the recovered plastics, in a circular and sustainable economy perspective. In particular, the nets and other nylon waste are transformed into a new yarn which is used for fashion and furnishings. In Hyundai cars, for example, for a part of the interior, such as the floor mats on some models.
Let’s talk about the weather
Is titled Everybody talks about the weather the current exhibition at the Prada Foundation in Venice (until 26 November) in the Ca’ Corner della Regina venue. The title takes its cue from a 1968 manifesto featuring Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels and Vladimir Lenin and the slogan that read: “Everyone is talking about the weather. We do not”. 50 years later, the artist Anne-Christine Klarmann has created a new version with Judith Ellens, Carola Rackete and Greta Thunberg and the inscription “Everyone talks about the weather. We too”.
As the curator Dieter Roelstraete explains, «time was the last thing a progressive in ’68 felt like talking about. Instead today it is clear that everyone should talk about it, for the simple reason that the current climate crisis may be the greatest existential threat humanity has ever faced». The exhibition explores the relationship between weather and art by intertwining an artistic part – with more than 50 contemporary works and a selection of classic works – and a scientific part, with images and data, in collaboration with the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Conferences on the topic will be held in October. info: foundationprada.org

Discovering biodiversity
The sailboats participating in the Life A-Mar Natura 2000 campaign, a project by Federparchi, Triton Research and Lega Navale, are sailing up the Tyrrhenian coast. The hulls – seized from organized crime – stop off at some of the 288 Italian marine sites of the European Natura 2000 network. For each stop, events open to all are organized to raise awareness of the coasts and interventions to protect biodiversity. After Sicily, we will stop in Tuscany, then Sardinia and Lazio, where the campaign will end on June 28th. info: lifeamarnatura2000.eu
