‘Oavelgems’ bundled in a new dialect book

According to the author and his friends, Avelgems does not sound West Flemish at all, certainly not Kortrijk, but rather East Flemish. “The only thing we have in common with West Flemish is that we school say, the sk. We say, ‘I stay at home’, in Kortrijk they say: ‘Me bluff tus‘. That’s completely different,” says author Jules Lampole.

Youth dialect

Germanist Jules Lampole has already written books about Avelgem. It took him 4 years to complete this 450-page stunner. But all special words, sayings and expressions are included. And the dialect lives here, also among the younger generation.

The book is for sale in the library of Avelgem.
