NWA, Donna Summer and many more

As part of this year’s Special Merit Award ceremony, several artists will receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award”. The Recording Academy, responsible for awarding the Grammys, announced that NWA, Laurie Anderson, Gladys Knight, Donna Summer, Tammy Wynette and the Clark Sisters will be recognized for their lifetime achievements. The awards ceremony will take place on February 3rd at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles.

The 2024 Trustees Award winners are Peter Asher, Kool DJ Herc and Joel Katz. Tom Koboyashi and Tom Scott take home the “Technical” Grammy. The song “Refugee” by K’naan, Steve McEwan and Gerald Eaton was honored with the “Best Song for Social Change” award. Summer, Wynette and Kobayashi are awarded posthumously.

“Creatives (…) whose influence touches generations around the world

The Recording Academy writes on its website, that the honorees are a “remarkable group of creatives and industry professionals whose influence touches generations around the world.” They continue to write: “Their contributions to music span genres, backgrounds and crafts, reflecting the rich diversity that drives our creative community. We look forward to honoring these music industry trailblazers next month (…).”

The 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients were Nirvana, the Supremes, Nile Rodgers, Slick Rick, Ma Rainey, Bobby McFerrin and Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart.
