• Hybrid systems to come
• Huang predicts exponential growth in the performance of quantum chips

Nvidia CEO initially skeptically towards quantum computing

In January of this year Jensen Huang, CEO of the chip gigant Nvidia, had expressed as part of the CES in Las Vegas, useful quantum computers are probably still removed for many years: “If you say, 15 years for very useful quantum computers, that’s probably rather early. If you say 30, then that’s probably rather late. But if you say 20, I think that would believe many of us.” This pessimistic assessment resulted in course burglaries in various quantum computing shares such as D-Wave Quantum, Rigetti Computing, Quantum Computing or Ionq.

Huang revises opinion: quantum computing is about to breakthrough

In the meantime, Huang has fundamentally changed his quantum computing opinion – he now sees the technology shortly before the breakthrough. “Quantum computing reaches a turning point,” he emphasized on June 11th at the Nvidia GTC conference in Paris. At the same time, he predicted that hybrid systems from classic and quantum processors – so -called QPU GPU combinations – could prevail in the near future.

“It is clear that we are now able to use classic quantum computing in areas that can solve some interesting problems in the coming years,” said Huang The Street at the conference. This is a clear course correction compared to his earlier statements – and a clear signal to investors that gains the topic of driving. Huang sees potential, especially in areas such as healthcare, research and finance.

Already in March, Nvidia organized the first “Quantum Day”, on which Huang publicly withdrew his old assessment. Now he goes even further: he expects growth to “logical qubits” in the style of the Mo Rohen law (Moore’s Law) – a factor of 10 every five years: “Just like the MooreScher law, I can count on ten times more logical quBits every ten years every five years.

“Every country, society, every company will rely on such an intelligent interest frastructure. Europe is now aware of the importance of these AI factories and the AI infrastructure,” added the Nvidia CEO recently in Paris.

Quantum computing shares start

On June 11, the shares of some quantum computing companies also reacted to the optimistic forecasts and the upcoming turning point that Huang identified during his speech in Paris. For example, the Quantum Computing share on the Nasdaq ultimately climbed by 25.38 percent to $ 18.97, while the papers from Rigetti computing increased by $ 11.39 to $ 12.52.
