Berlin (dpa -AfX) – Berlin’s governing mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) is going to compensate for the federal states for the relief package for the economy planned by the federal government. “I find the Federal Government’s measures to reduce energy costs and taxes correctly. But they will also burden the Berlin state budget, just like any other state budget,” Wegner told the news portal “T-online“Shortly before the next prime minister conference.
The Federal Government’s planned relief package provides for better tax depreciation for companies that buy machines, devices and electric cars. Corporation tax should also decrease from 2028. In Berlin, the federal and state governments still want to advise on the planned relief package, which will lead to loss of income for countries and municipalities.
“All federal states have big problems with the budget constellation, just like the federal government. We have to come here for a procedure that distributes the loads fairly. I wish the principle: Whoever ordered,” said Wegner “T-Online”. “In the end, the federal states have to be relieved if the federal government measures burden the state budgets. It needs to be accommodated.”
When asked whether a solution at the Prime Minister Conference is conceivable this Wednesday (June 18), Wegner said: “That would be desirable.” Overall, he was optimistic. “I am sure that Friedrich Merz and the Federal Government see the pressure under which the countries are,” said the CDU politician.
