Nutrition professions on the rise: more students start at Ter Groene Poorte
Everywhere hands are short and work on surplus. The positive note today comes from the education where nutrition school Ter Groene Poorte from Bruges will start on 1 September with a plus in the number of students. “We have remained more or less stable in recent years, but today we are starting with 1025 students. That is 57 more than the 968 students we started with last year,” says director Iris Cornette.
Job security
The explanation is difficult to attribute to one factor. “On the one hand, you can feel that our mission to teach innovative and trendsetting is working. On the other hand, there is of course job security. In corona times we have seen that the food sector continued to run. Bakers and butchers were there, and the catering industry also reinvented itself with take-away concepts.”
In recent years, Ter Groene Poorte has focused on modernizing the infrastructure. “This can also be a reason. The butchery school was completely renovated five years ago, the new bakery school opened its doors exactly one year ago and now we are going to take care of our hotel school. In addition, we also invested in a food truck during the summer holidays and the industrial kitchen and the school restaurant have been modernized.”
