Nuremberg wins again – strong performance against Regensburg

2nd Bundesliga

After the last two defeats in a row, the fans of 1. FC Nürnberg became uncomfortable. The team showed a reaction and drove an unchallenged victory against Jahn Regensburg.

After two bitter bankruptcies, 1. FC Nürnberg is back on the road to success. The nine-time German champions defeated Jahn Regensburg 2-0 (1-0) and at least temporarily reduced the gap to a promotion place to five points.

After the defeats against Ingolstadt (0:5) and in Karlsruhe (1:4), Pascal Köpke (35th) and Taylan Duman (55th) scored the goals for the Franconians. For Regensburg it was the fourth defeat in a row.

Nuremberg shines with a fast combination game

The hosts, who had to do without Johannes Geis (Corona) at short notice, tried to control the game. However, the first big chance came from Regensburg. David Otto (19th) failed after a corner from close range by FCN goalkeeper Christian Mathenia.

Nuremberg always combined quickly to the front, but the last pass often didn’t arrive at first. The lead through Köpke’s first goal of the season was not undeserved. Mats Möller Daehli crossed with precision. The guests were only briefly shocked and had a great opportunity to equalize two minutes before the break. But Max Besuschkow shot over the goal.

Despite the lead, the people of Nuremberg initially pushed forward after the change in front of 23,042 spectators. Duman increased after preparatory work by Lukas Schleimer. Seven minutes later, Duman missed the final decision with a crossbar shot.
