In the new Magazine of the series “Time Crimes” is about drugs and the intoxication associated with them. Among other things, the Berlin rapper Nura, who used to sell drugs in clubs, also has her say: “At some point I thought: If I’m in the club all the time anyway, I can earn something on the side, you know? And then I started dealing. I was really good at dealing drugs, too.” the artist told the magazine.
Otherwise, the musician looks back surprisingly openly on her past and says that she would be ashamed of some actions today. Among other things, she and her rap colleague Juju often trashed a hotel room during their time as the band SXTN: “Today I think: How stupid! My little brother works in a hotel, he has to clean up the mess of ego artists like me.”
Nura: From the Asylum Home to the Charts
Nura was born in Kuwait and came to Germany at the age of three, initially living in Oberhausen and Wuppertal. Her youth was marked by conflict, as she had been in one Episode of the podcast “Deutschland 3000” described with Eva Schulz. Due to family problems, she finally moved to a residential facility for young people before coming to Berlin at the age of 18, where she embarked on an artistic career. As part of the rap duo SXTN, she finally made her breakthrough with hits like “Von Party zu Party”, “Die Fotzen sind wieder da” and “Bongzimmer”. In a joint song with the Hamburg Disarstar (“Trauma”), Nura rapped about growing up:
“The girl is difficult to train, she is lost
Born next to junkies and dealers, without a golden spoon
It used to be embarrassing for me, but then the insight came
Now I earn a lot
And proudly say, ‘I’m a foster child’”
Nura also published the autobiography “Do you know what I mean?: From the asylum home to the charts” together with the author Jan Wehn, in which she tells of her sometimes difficult life. Musikexpress author Linus Volkmann wrote in his review of the book at the time: “Nura tells […] many stages of life on 200 pages. Unexcited, without literary ambition, but very close. For example, when she describes how the first vacation in the homeland of Eritrea, which she has never set foot before, feels like: The surprising feeling of not being a minority with your own skin color for the first time”.
Nura’s current album is called AUF DER SEUCH and was released on August 20, 2021. She can also be seen again and again as an actress, most recently in the series “Die Discounter” produced by Christian Ulmen and Carsten Kelber, of which a second season will soon be released target.
