Number of wolf opponents is increasing, majority of Drenthe is against

The number of wolf opponents is increasing in the Netherlands. This is the conclusion of the ANP news agency based on a survey it conducted in August in collaboration with Kieskompas.

Drenthe is the only province where the majority of residents are against the animal. About 54 percent of the Drents are against. The province of Friesland is in second place with 43 percent opponents.

In provinces where the wolf occurs, more people are against the animal than in provinces that have nothing to do with the wolf. In the province of Utrecht, 26 percent of the inhabitants are against the wolf.

In December 2021, the same survey was also conducted. At that time, Drenthe was also the fiercest opponent of the wolf, but the percentages were about 17 percentage points lower.

Kieskompas and ANP asked 9100 people the question ‘As far as I’m concerned, the wolf belongs in the Netherlands’, to which the respondents could answer: Strongly disagree, disagree, neutral/no opinion, agree, strongly agree.

In Drenthe, the majority of those who voted against ‘completely disagree’ with the statement.
