Number of positive corona tests in Drenthe is creeping up again

Is Drenthe at the start of a covid autumn wave? Since this month, the number of positive corona tests in our province has been increasing weekly.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) has been forecasting a revival of the coronavirus in the autumn for some time now. In Drenthe, the number of positive tests is still relatively low, but an increasing trend is visible.

This trend started in the first week of this month, when the number of infections confirmed by the GGD Drenthe rose from 185 to 205. It was the first increase in almost three months.

This month, the number of positive tests increased every week. In the latest figures, from last week, the number of confirmed infections in Drenthe is 298. It should be noted that not everyone with corona complaints is tested.

Nationally, the number of confirmed infections is increasing faster and faster. In the past seven days, RIVM registered 15,408 positive tests. That is the highest number since August 8, almost two months ago.

Compared to a week earlier, the number of new cases has increased by 55.9 percent. That is the fastest weekly increase since June 22.

According to the RIVM, the number of confirmed infections is increasing among almost all age groups, but especially among people aged 70 and older. Relatively speaking, regions in Limburg and Gelderland have the most positive tests.

It is also getting busier in the test lanes. Last week 15,641 people were tested, the highest number nationwide in seven weeks.
