Number of positive corona tests falls, recovery is over

The revival of the coronavirus is over, the number of positive tests is falling again. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported on Tuesday how fast the decline is. The institute will then publish its weekly figures for the 90th time, on day 755 of the corona epidemic in the Netherlands.

RIVM reported last week that it had registered 429,252 positive results from corona tests in the seven days before. In the six days following, 272,760 infections were confirmed. On average, that equates to 45,460 positive tests per day.

The weekly figure for Tuesday can therefore come out at 300,000 to 320,000. That would mean a drop of 25 to 30 percent, the strongest decrease in a month.

RIVM also reports on Tuesday how many people with corona among its members have ended up in hospital in the past week. Last week there were 1,545 new admissions, 91 of which were in intensive care units. During the same period, the institute recorded 104 deaths from the virus.
