Number of positive corona cases at Games increased to 139 | Sport

The number of positive cases per day therefore does not grow. The day before (Friday), the organizing committee reported 36 new positive cases. The Dutch team is not yet aware of any cases of corona.

The Winter Games are held under strict coronavirus rules, meaning all participants (from athletes to journalists) are completely separated from the Chinese population. In order to detect infections as quickly as possible, each participant in the bubble should take a daily PCR test. Anyone who tests positive has to go to a special quarantine hotel. After two negative PCR tests with a break of at least 24 hours in between, the people concerned are allowed to be released from isolation.

Also among the latest positive cases is Polish short track speed skater Natalia Maliszewska, who is a medal contender in China and a competitor of Suzanne Schulting. She is already the eighth athlete from Poland to have corona at the Games. Long track speed skaters Natalia Czerwonka, Magdalena Czyszczon and Marek Kania are also among them.

For Maliszewska, participation will now be a battle against the clock. The heats of the 500 meters are already on the program on Saturday.
