The number of Drenthe with unemployment benefits decreased last year. In Emmen and Meppel, the number of unemployment benefits fell by more than 30 percent, according to figures from benefits agency UWV.
Last July in the municipality of Emmen there were still 1,460 people with unemployment benefits, there are now just over 1,000. That is 1.8 percent of the working population. In Meppel, the number of unemployment benefits fell from 485 to 339, also 1.8 percent of the working population. This means that the two municipalities are still frontrunners in Drenthe in the field of unemployment benefits.
At 34 percent, the decline was strongest in De Wolden. In that municipality, 1.3 percent of the working population has unemployment benefits, the lowest percentage in Drenthe.
