Number of corona infections among workers half higher than in the general population | Domestic

Professor Godderis’ report, prepared together with biostatisticians Geert Molenberghs and Johan Verbeeck, compares the number of corona infections between different sectors in the economy, based on the incidences and the number of infections in two weeks per 100,000 people. The latest data covers the period from November 26 to December 17.

The incidence in the working population was 53 at that time, while the incidence in the general population was 35. The incidence among working people is therefore 51 percent higher, compared to the general population.

In the previous period analyzed, from November 13 to 25, the incidences reached 27 for the general population and 24 for workers. So they are increasing, but compared to the peak periods they still remain very low. During peak times the figures were regularly above 150 and even 200.

“People no longer test systematically,” explains Professor Godderis. “The figures are therefore significantly underreported. Due to the data from the sewage water – where the number of virus particles present has increased significantly in recent times – and the loss of staff, we suspect that virus circulation is currently at a very high level.”
