Number 2 passes party leader Volt at the Groningen election

The number 2 for the Volt party still overtakes its list leader in the Provincial Council of Groningen. Laura Reinink received 5265 preferential votes: 772 more than the number 1, Jan Jacob Hilberdink.

That was the biggest surprise on Thursday afternoon when the final results of last week’s parliamentary elections were announced. The Central Voting Office Groningen presented the final figures, including preferential votes, in Groningen City Hall.

Also at BBB another change: Sellinger Wortelboer still in fraction

The final result also caused a shift at the BBB: Henk Wortelboer from Sellingen received so many preferential votes that he moved from 26th place on the list of candidates to an eligible twelfth place. He may therefore join the group instead of Mariët Bosman from Sappemeer, which will take office next week at the installation of the new States.

The City of Groningen Laura Reinink (28) is happy that she can join the one States seat that Volt won last week. “It is an honor to have won the preferential votes and I promise to work hard every day to be the best politician I can be,” she said in a statement from her party.

According to Volt, Hilberdink, spokesman for Volt on Wednesday in the first ‘interpretation debate’ in the States, fully supports his young fellow party member taking over from him. “Jan Jacob fully supports the voter’s decision.”

No major shifts, candidates are advancing to the reserve bench

Otherwise, the final result does not cause any major shifts. However, some unelected candidates have risen in the tail of the electoral lists on the basis of preferential votes. As a result, they can now hope for a States seat if someone from their party’s faction leaves in the coming years.

Floor Buigel, among others, fell just outside the boat as number 4 of D66, but is advancing to third place on the basis of preference votes. If a party member in the forthcoming new two-man faction drops out, the city Groningen can still join the Statenzaal.
