The NTR is working on a possible sequel to the successful series The story of the Netherlands, a spokeswoman told the ANP. “We are in talks with the NPO and two ideas are now being worked on.” On Wednesday evening, the last episode of The Story of the Netherlands attracted nearly 1.7 million viewers.
“We are delighted with the success of the series and to see that it has been able to interest so many people in history,” said the spokeswoman. The two ideas that will be developed are the story of Amsterdam and the story of the Oranges. “In 2025, Amsterdam will be 750 years old, that could be a great occasion.”
It is certainly possible that both ideas will eventually come to fruition, the spokeswoman said, but “everything is still in its infancy”. It is not yet known when a new series will be released. “These are productions that have an incredibly long production time. It would be nice if this didn’t take another three years, ideally you don’t want to wait too long now.”
The NTR wants to investigate whether Daan Schuurmans can return as a narrator in a sequel. “Of course that also depends on whether Daan wants it and is available.”
