NS wants to implement these changes in the new timetable for Zoetermeers train passengers

It will take some time, but NS has announced the provisional timetable for 2025. Zoetermeer residents who travel by train will also have to deal with changes.

On the website of NS you can read: “In the 2025 timetable, NS makes traveling more attractive for many train passengers. We will connect various regions of the Netherlands better and more often, both during the day and at earlier and later times.” A disclaimer before you read further: these are still intended changes. The final timetable next year may deviate from the plans mentioned.

Zoetermeer timetable changes

According to the transport company, 1,600 more trains per week will run next year than in the current timetable. The following proposed changes to the timetable may be of interest to Zoetermeer residents:

  • NS wants to run the ten-minute train Rotterdam – Schiphol and Schiphol – Arnhem all day from Monday to Thursday. This significantly improves the accessibility of Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena station. There are large companies and many events take place in, among others, the Johan Cruijff Arena and the Ziggo Dome.
  • NS wants more trains during rush hours, evenings and weekends. For example, the 15-minute services between Amsterdam Central Station, Weesp and Almere, between Alkmaar and Amsterdam Central Station and between Utrecht and Woerden will return. NS will also run the first train earlier on many routes on some days or you can take the last train later. For example, from Groningen to the Randstad (from now on from 5:19 a.m.), an extra late Intercity from Enschede to Amersfoort (11:16 p.m.), from Arnhem to Amsterdam (5:31 a.m.), The Hague-Eindhoven (11:49 p.m.) and from Almere to Utrecht (00 :51 hours).
  • On Friday and Saturday evenings, NS wants to run an Intercity between Amsterdam, Haarlem, Leiden and The Hague every fifteen minutes, until half past twelve at night. This means a significant improvement for travelers in this part of the Randstad in the evenings.
  • On Friday, NS wants to run the Intercity trains between Utrecht and The Hague and between Utrecht and Rotterdam every fifteen minutes from the morning rush hour instead of from noon.
  • More trains will run between Utrecht Central Station and Leiden Central Station during rush hour.
  • NS wants to restore the 15-hour service with Sprinters between Leiden Central Station and Schiphol Airport on Friday.

Other adjustments to the timetable

NS is introducing the Ten-minute Sprinter between The Hague Central Station, Rotterdam Central Station and Dordrecht. NS: “There will be a lot of construction near the railway in the coming years. With the TienminutenSprinter, NS can serve the growing number of travelers. In addition, more trains mean fewer waiting times and a better chance of getting a seat.”

Do you want to go to Belgium by train? Then next year you will have more choice according to the transport company: “NS and the Belgian carrier NMBS double the number of trains between the Netherlands and Brussels from 16 to 32 per day. There will be a new, fast connection that will take travelers about 45 minutes less time than now.”
