The access restriction only for vaccinated and recovered people (2G) in retail in North Rhine-Westphalia is to be lifted after the Prime Minister’s Conference on February 16th. This was announced by NRW Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst (CDU) on Wednesday during an appointment in Cologne. “Together with the Prime Ministers, we will discuss a step-by-step plan for more perspectives that will responsibly secure the openings with basic protection,” said Wüst, who is currently MPK Chairman, of the German Press Agency. “That means wearing a mask and keeping your distance where it is necessary.” That also applies to retail.
He is already giving the signal “that we will establish unity with our neighbors Hesse, Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate immediately after the Prime Ministers’ Conference”. In Lower Saxony and Hesse and several other federal states, the 2G rule has already been abolished in retail. “It’s right that we act uniformly and coordinate with other countries, especially when it comes to retail, which in many regions also attracts customers across national borders,” said Wüst.
In the NRW retail trade, the access restriction only for vaccinated and recovered people (2G) has only had to be checked randomly since Wednesday, but the 2G rule has not yet been abolished. Wüst said it was clear to him that, after the simplifications, further simplifications for trade by lifting the 2G rule would be needed as a first step. At the same time, protection against infection must be secured by wearing an FFP2 mask. Previously, Wüst’s government partner FDP had called for the speedy abolition of the 2G rule. (dpa)
