NPO chairman Frederieke Leeflang has asked the Media Authority (CvdM) to investigate a salary proposal from Jeroen Pauw at BNNVARA. In that conversation in 2019, Pauw’s agent demanded that the public broadcaster guarantee to purchase programs from Pauw’s production company TVBV. That would indirectly give the presenter a higher salary. That demand was rejected, but then TVBV was hired through another broadcaster (Omroep MAX) to On 1 to make.
By: our entertainment editorsA spokesperson for the NPO confirms this to the AP after reporting from BNR† The news broadcaster says it has a confidential e-mail containing the salary proposal, prepared by Pauw’s agent. In it, the agent states that Pauw will continue with his talk show stopped in 2019 for the highest possible reward Peacock† The agent also wanted a purchase guarantee from the production company TVBV, of which the presenter was director at the time.
This construction would lead to Pauw earning more than is legally permitted for presenters of the public broadcaster (established in the Remuneration Framework for Presenters in the Public Broadcasting (BPPO)). In the end, the broadcaster rejected the proposal and the talk show was canceled Peacock† TVBV did receive the production order for the daily talk show On 1†
This was already announced in 2020 through a publication in NRC† Questions were then asked in Parliament, also in relation to the establishment of On 1† According to a spokesperson for the NPO, it was made clear in response to this that action had been taken on the basis of the remuneration framework.
“The questions and statements that BNR presented now relate to the BPPO and especially to the creation of the talk show On 1which is made by several broadcasters,” said the NPO spokesperson.
Pauw says he does not know exactly what has been discussed in negotiations
The CvdM, an independent party, recently announced that it is conducting research into how the remuneration framework for presenters works in practice. The case around On 1 and Pauw will be part of this at the request of the NPO. In the past, there would have been a similar construction for Matthijs van Nieuwkerk.
Pauw does not know exactly what was discussed in the negotiations, he says to BNR-journalist Ton F. van Dijk in a reaction. “But I am sure that a link has NEVER been made between whether or not to continue a daily talk show and a deal for TVBV,” the presenter writes in a Van Dijk shared message. app message† “Because something like that would always have been discussed with me.”
