The NPO has placed the premiere of a very expensive new drama series against a squatter at the Football World Cup. The result? Very low ratings. “This is really a shame.”

The new drama series Bestseller Boy, about a young Amsterdammer with ruthless writing ambitions, started yesterday with extremely cautious figures. At half past eight in the evening, the first episode attracted only 148 thousand viewers (2 percent market share) to NPO 3, which is very meager.

‘Such a shame’

Tina Nijkamp thinks it’s an incredible programming blunder. “At the NPO they thought it would be a very good idea to start a new and expensive drama series against a very large World Cup football match with very large football countries (Spain against Germany),” she writes on her ratings juice channel.

In the target group 20 to 54 years old, which is important for NPO 3, hardly anyone watched. “Very sinful. How can this start on this day? I have also seen 0 promos for it. Well, hopefully it will be a success at NPO Start, that will also be the spokesperson, but it is a shame.”

Dramatic evening

Not only Bestseller Boy, in which Anna Nooshin will appear in a guest role in a few weeks, but also the programs before it scored meager. Timmyland attracted 155 thousand viewers and Au Pairs VIPS had 153 thousand.

Fortunately, Raven van Dorst made up for those flop scores later in the evening. Her episode with Frits Wester and Nilüfer Gündogan reached a score of 487 thousand viewers (8 percent market share).

Football wins

The big winner in prime time was the World Cup match between Spain and Germany with 3.1 million viewers (50 percent). The top three in prime time is completed by RTL 4’s Isola Di Beau (967 thousand and 16 percent) and SBS 6’s De Oranjewinter (890 thousand and 20 percent).

RTL 4’s Een tegen 50 (770 thousand and 13 percent), NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (504 thousand and 8 percent) and SBS 6’s Code van Coppens (502 thousand and 8 percent) were also the most popular.
