NPO 1 brings the television hit Opzoek Naar with Frits Sissing back on the tube. This time they are looking for two (!) protagonists, namely for the musical Grease, and that is unique.
The Frits Sissing show Op Search returns and next season the program has a surprise in store. For the first time, there is no search for one lead actor for a major musical, but for two. Albert Verlinde is bringing the musical Grease back into the theaters and he is looking for a Danny and a Sandy.
Two protagonists
Frits thinks it’s very special. “This edition, for the first time, we’re looking for two protagonists, this time Danny Zuko and Sandy. A wonderfully romantic story for everyone, in which dance plays a very important role. Although it is a 50s story, this time it is given a more modern look.”
In fact, Looking For is of course just one big commercial for Albert Verlinde’s new musical company. However, Frits sees the program mainly as a great boost for the musical sector. “With Looking For, new talents get a chance to enrich our beautiful cultural sector.”
1978
Danny and Sandy’s love story is the longest-running musical ever on Broadway. In 1978 the film came out on the big screen and with success. “Today, the story and the music are still a household name. In Searching For, the sultry ‘Summer Nights’ between Sandy and Danny are relived”, says AvroTros.
Grease tells the story of teenagers Danny and Sandy who are unexpectedly reunited at school after a holiday romance. Sandy soon finds out that Danny isn’t the sweet boy of the summer, but a tough T-Bird. Sandy decides to join the popular ‘Pink Ladies’. They try to find love for each other again.

Unlike other editions of Op Search, this time anyone who wants to become a real T-Bird or Pink Lady can sign up for the lead roles, namely via avrotros.nl/opzoeknaar. “Frits Sissing opens the doors of the audition room for everyone over 16 years old.”
The best candidates will compete against each other for seven weeks from Friday 23 December in the live shows, weekly at 8.25 pm on NPO 1.
