Nowhere Special – A love storythe plot
Set innorthern Irelandthe film tells John’s story (James Norton), a 35-year-old window cleaner raising his young son Michael alone (Daniel Lamont). The wife, immediately after the birth of the child, returned to Russia without worrying about the newborn. Thus, despite a thousand difficulties, John dedicated himself entirely to raising the child.
He establishes a beautiful and symbiotic bond with his son but, when the child is four years old, John discovers that he has a terminal illness that gives him only a few months to live. Having digested the news with difficulty, he starts looking for a new family that can welcome Michael.
Determined to protect the little one and, if possible, not to let him miss anything, the man soon realizes that the perfect family does not exist. After several failed attempts, it is the meeting with a young social worker that makes him change his perspective and to show him other possibilities for Michael’s future.

The touching love between father and son
Based on a true story and directed by Uberto Pasolinigreat-grandson of Luchino Visconti, director of Still Life and in the past producer of Full Montythe film is a touching tale of life and death. Filtered through the intense and touching relationship between a father and a son, about to say goodbye forever. Thanks also to the intelligent script and without ever falling into the traps of rhetoric and of the easy tear, the director builds a narrative made of glances and silences. This is enough to convey to the viewer all the intensity and love between the two protagonists.
Nowhere Special However tells much moreespecially in the central block where Michael meets a whirlwind of characters candidates to replace his parental role. A wandering between families from different social backgroundsincluding potential single parents, who summarize all the nuances of a society in full transformation.
The result is a balanced film, strong in performances by James Norton and the wonderful Daniel Lamont. Especially Norton, in the past often in antagonist roles or as the handsome and damned. Working by subtraction, gives his character very sweet nuancescertainly not an easy job but one that the actor was chosen by Greta Gerwig for Little Women performs perfectly.
James Norton, handsome and busy
Born in London in 1985, the English actor he discovered acting almost by chance after a degree in theology obtained at Cambridge. Fascinated by the theater courses held at universities, he enrolls in courses but abandons them before graduating in acting after landing a few small roles on British stages.
After a few years of important apprenticeship – appears in Rush by Ron Howard and in the series Doctor Who –, the turning point came in 2014 thanks to the detective series HappyValley. Which earned him numerous awards at home. Without ever abandoning the beloved theatreJames successfully continues his career between sets and stages, gaining more and more fame even in the United States.
Engaged since 2008 to colleague Imogen Pottsin recent years he has alternated busy roles with more light-hearted parts as in the film The appearance of things together with Amanda Seyfried. At the beginning of 2024 we will find him again as Chris Blackwell in Bob Marley – One Lovebiopic on the king of reggae directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green.
