Now the disc star in the triangular drama is talking

Kristjan Ceh, a discus thrower competing in Turku on Tuesday, opens his break.

Puck thrower Kristjan Ceh, 23, drifted into a trilogy last season. Slovenian coach Gorazd Rajher demanded Ceh’s girlfriend Anna Maria Orelia out of the exercises.

Ceh refused, so the coach resigned. The scandal was completed just a few weeks before the Tokyo Olympics.

– I can’t comprehend the use of my ex-coach. Anna Maria was already involved in the winter 2021 training camp. I set my own records and had quality workouts. The coach was satisfied. One guy from the Slovenian Athletics Association was also involved in the training camp, and he didn’t notice anything that I didn’t focus on training, Ceh tells Iltalehti.

The Slovenian says the coaching behavior changed dramatically during the race season.

– After the first races in May 2021, Anna Maria became a problem. My coach and manager were not happy with me, even though I set a record of 68.17.

The man has a clear view of where the shoe squeezed.

– The coach and the manager wanted to control me in every way.

Rajher, who piloted Ceh to the forefront of the world, announced after his resignation that he could return to coaching responsibility as long as Orel was never involved in the rehearsals again. Orel is an Estonian hammer thrower with a record of 69.85.

– Of course I didn’t accept it. It is easier and more comfortable to practice with Anna Maria than alone.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Ceh was Fifth with a score of 66.37. The performance was not bad, but there could have been fines for better. Ceh’s record for last season had reached 70.35 in Mortuary on Midsummer.

– Of course I had stress before Tokyo, but I was just trying to focus on the races. And I did just fine. You can always do things better, but I’m pretty happy instead of a fifth. They were the first Olympics of my career.

What kind of distance do you have with Rajher today?

– We don’t have any gaps. He no longer even greets me anymore, so we haven’t talked, Ceh replies.

Congratulations from Estonia

Ceh has found a lady and a new coach in Estonia. Lajilegenda Gerd Kanter took the Slovenian as protection last fall.

– When I compare to my previous coach, Gerd is much more reliable, wiser and better at doing training programs. Gerd’s knowledge of the species is really great.

During his career, the Olympic discus throw winner and world champion Kanter was famous for his great practice throws.

– My training throw has not changed much, as I have thrown 60-70 times per throw in the past, Ceh says.

Growing up on a farm, the 206-centimeter of Slovenia only started athletics at the age of 16, which is why throwing volumes have been quite high in recent years.

– Before starting athletics, I didn’t play sports at all. I was just doing farm work.

A wild result

Ceh has tapped a record 71.27 this season. Last week, the windless stadium in Rome’s Diamond League went as high as 70.72.

– Many ask what is behind the earnings trend. I would say everything new has worked. The coach, background team, and practice changed from recent years. We are very proud that everything went so well.

Ceh, who lives in Tallinn for part of the year, refutes one allegation. It has been suggested that a very important lap distance for a discus thrower would be massive.

– It’s not that big. 215 cents, Ceh says.

Reigning Olympic champion and world champion Daniel Ståhlin the lap is 220 cents.

Iltalehti’s athletics expert Arto Bryggare analyzes that Ceh can dominate disc rings for 10 to 15 years if it so wishes.

The Slovene smiles at the estimate. He says only a new record is advancing in mind.

– Basketball, winter sports and football are the biggest sports in Slovenia. Athletics is not very popular. Hopefully I will inspire the crowd to athletics and the sport will grow.

On Tuesday, Ceh will compete in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku.
