Scam websites invite you to download malware to your computer or provide payment information.
Information security company Check Point Research (CPR) researchers warn AI chat program from scam sites imitating ChatGPT.
The sites encourage you to download artificial intelligence to your machine, which is actually malware. Cyber security researcher by Dominic Alvieri the downloadable package may contain malware called Redline.

Real ChatGPT works in the browser and does not require downloading to the computer.
CPR has found, among other things, the following sites to be harmful:
- chat-gpt-pc.online
- chat-gpt-online-pc.com
- chatgpt4beta.com
- chat-gpt-ai-pc.info
- chat-gpt-for-windows.com
Check Point Research
According to CPR, the number of scam websites has been steadily increasing. Since the beginning of 2023, a total of 13,296 new web addresses have been created that are related to ChatGPT or the company that owns it, OpenAI. There are a total of around 532 of these dangerous or potentially dangerous sites.
Harmful sites have had tens of thousands of visitors.
Phishing
According to the CPR, the sites are mainly phishing. This means that sites collect user information that cybercriminals can use to their advantage.
The company says that one of the most common methods of phishing are fake, but at first glance, real-looking website names. For example, in email phishing attempts, the sender may use the combination rn instead of the letter m in their address.
Howtogeek tells, that several scam sites imitating ChatGPT may also ask for payment information. In these cases, however, it is not stated what the user is required to pay for. It’s about hacking bank data.
ChatGPT does not have its own application. However, it is used in other applications such as the language learning application Duolingo.
OpenAI requires you to create an account to use the chat program, but there is no need to download anything, and no payment information is required. The right ChatGPT is found from here.
