No one in the stadium saw Jong AZ score the equalizer against VVV-Venlo (2-2). Yet it happened in the dying seconds of the match. Loek Postma hit the target and gave his team a hard-fought point in Limburg. “Everyone thought it was an own goal, but I actually headed it in,” says Postma.
Just before half time, Jong AZ took the lead after an excellent first half. Ricuenio Kewal scored after a subtle assist from Jayden Addai: 0-1. In the second half the promises only had to go backwards. VVV-Venlo constantly looked for the attack and took a 2-1 lead through Robin Lathouwers and Rick Ketting.
In the final seconds, Jong AZ was allowed to build for a free kick. Even goalkeeper Rome Jayden Owudu-Oduro smelled his chance. It was substitute Postma who scored the equalizer from Mexx Meeedink’s cross. It was his first goal for Jong AZ. “Then let’s do it in a nice way,” says Postma.
Last week Jong AZ suffered an unpleasant defeat. Jari Vlak made it 2-1 for FC Emmen deep in injury time. Tonight, trainer Jan Sierksma could cheer during injury time. “You can’t zap away from us five minutes before the end,” says Sierksma.
