Now it happened! The first US state banned the use of Tiktok completely

Montana will likely serve as a test laboratory for a broader federal ban on Tiktok.

Tiktok is a social media service especially popular with young people.

Republican governor of Montana in the United States Greg Gianforte has announced that it has banned the Chinese-owned social media Tiktok. Montana is the first state in the United States to impose a complete ban on the service.

The ban requires Tiktok to prevent the people of Montana from accessing the application under threat of fines.

Experience greater denial

Tiktok has raised a lot of debate among US decision makers. CEO of Tiktok Shou Zi Chew was recently heard by US lawmakers, where he had to defend himself against, among other things, accusations about how the application affects the mental health of young people adversely. However, the biggest concerns are how the Chinese government could gain access to the data collected by the application, which it collects from its users.

Tiktok has been called upon to divest itself of its Chinese holdings under the threat that the app would be banned across the US. According to the Guardian the ban will take effect next year on January 1.

The ban will probably lead to legal challenges. Montana will be a kind of test laboratory for banning Tiktok in the entire federal state.

In Finland, the use of Tiktok is not recommended for government office phones, as are other leisure applications. However, the application may be used if, for example, communication tasks require its use.
