Christmas has been seen at Sara Siep’s, 32, home since the beginning of November. The darkest season of the year was allowed to give way in the glow of light strips, Christmas tree decorations and candles.
Sara has inherited the habit from her own mother. Sara’s mother used to create Christmas at home well in advance in November. Even as a child, Sara fell in love with the idea that Christmas doesn’t just end on Christmas Eve, but that Christmas time can be enjoyed longer. On the other hand, early preparation makes Christmas Eve itself less stressful.
– This is the highlight of the year, when you get to make Christmas at home. It’s wonderful to start really early and feel the Christmas atmosphere, says Sara.

Christmas with loved ones
Sara’s boyfriend, soccer player Pyry Soiri, has also gotten to know Sara’s Christmas traditions during their few years together.
– It’s wonderful when he knows that I’m such a Christmas fanatic. I probably asked him in the first week of November if I could bring a fir tree and he agreed. He lets me goof around and go crazy. He is involved in everything. Christmas is wonderful to share with someone who understands important things to me, says Sara.
Sara and Pyry spent their first Christmas together in Soiri’s childhood landscapes in Namibia, and now it’s Pyry’s first Christmas with Sara’s family in Lapland.
The couple gets to enjoy Christmas at the cottage Sara bought a few years ago. The cabin has become an important spiritual hole, where you can forget the rush of everyday life. In addition, Sara plans to introduce Lapland to Pyry and take her skiing in the fells.
The lovers will head back to Helsinki after Christmas, as they will travel to the warmth of the south for a New Year’s holiday to relax.
– I think that’s the reason why I was able to lure him to the cold north, Sara laughs.

Extraordinary Christmases
According to Sara, Christmas in Namibia was very unusual compared to her previous Christmases. A different kind of Christmas turned out to be wonderful in the end, but at first it made Sara, who loves traditional Christmases, think.
– I was a bit worried beforehand that we were going there for Christmas, because I have spent almost every Christmas in Finland. Then I agreed that it was time to try something different, Sara recalls.
Namibian Christmas included, among other things, barbecuing among relatives. Sara and Pyry also brought Finnish Christmas food and chocolates, so the traditional Christmas atmosphere could be created even in African landscapes.
Sara also had an extraordinary Christmas two years ago. Sara traveled to her cottage in the north for a family Christmas, but the plans fell apart in an instant when two lines appeared on the corona test.
Despite my suspicions, a lonely Christmas did not turn out to be a miserable disappointment, but it turned out to be a nice way to spend Christmas.
– I watched a lot of movies and lounged on the couch. It was pretty lovely.
Christmas spent alone was a good example of the fact that Christmas can be celebrated in many different ways. In Sara’s opinion, people who follow social media in particular should remember that Christmas should not be pressured. There isn’t just one right way to spend Christmas, and even a Christmas that looks perfect isn’t necessarily so.

Traditional Christmas
Sara’s family Christmas Eve has included customs familiar to many Finns, such as cooking Christmas porridge, a Christmas sauna and Santa’s hot line -watching the program on TV.
The Siepi family’s Christmas table is covered with traditional Christmas food. The table includes, for example, rosolli and boxed dishes.
– I’m usually the person in charge of coverage. The responsibility for the food is usually left to everyone else. I can also cook something, but I’m not very good with Christmas dishes, Sara laughs.

Although you might think otherwise, the number one fan of Christmas left getting gifts until the last week. Sara didn’t stress about getting gifts, because she knew very well the needs of her loved ones, and all she had to do was pick up the gifts. Sara’s gift budget was a few hundred euros, she doesn’t know the exact amount.
In her childhood, Sara waited for skis from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, because she was an avid skier. As an adult, even a gift has become more valuable than an act of consideration. In his opinion, there is no such thing as a bad gift. Sara is warmed by the fact that another person has spent their time getting and thinking about a gift.
Even though Sara is a big fan of Christmas, her Christmas ends right before Boxing Day. Christmas will be created in thoughts again at the end of next year. Inka Soveri
Sara and Pyry’s love story began in 2021. The couple confirmed their relationship during the summer, but they admitted that their life together had already lasted a little longer at that point.

In her early public years, Sara participated in reality shows such as Big Brother VIP and later hosted shows like Paradise Hotel Suomi.
