Novak Djokovic was not the only winner in his family on Sunday. In Rome he described the double success as a ‘Sunshine Double’.
“I just wanted him to enjoy it. In the end, after his win, he was over the moon and the family and everyone who supported him were delighted. That was nice,” said Djokovic.
Stefan has not been on the tennis court for very long, but father Novak fully supports him if he wants to pursue a professional career as a tennis player. “He’s only seven and shouldn’t feel any pressure or expectations yet.” Yet Djokovic knows that those expectations may already be there subconsciously. ,,He is part of my family and for that reason attracts a lot of attention when he participates in tournaments. Especially in our country.”
In order not to put too much pressure on his son, Djokovic soon turned the attention back to himself. After all, with a victory in Rome, he is one of the favorites to go to Roland Garros, where he defends his title. ,,I see myself as one of the favourites, but I try not to think too much about who will win the tournament or who has the most chances. I mostly think about myself. The last few weeks I have been feeling very good and with that I can sometimes go far.”
