Novak Djokovic was not allowed to start at the Australian Open due to his lack of vaccination card. Participation in the French Open in Paris was also in the balance, but could now work out.
Tennis star Novak Djokovic can hope to take part in the French Open in Paris. Because the corona rules will be significantly relaxed in France on March 14, the Serb, who is still not vaccinated against the corona virus, could possibly start at the second Grand Slam tournament of the season. The French Open at the Stade Roland Garros starts on May 22nd.
No obligation to show the vaccination card
French Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Thursday that from March 14, the current obligation to present the “Vaccinal Passport” (“vaccination pass”) would be suspended. Djokovic could benefit from that.
Djokovic was unable to take part in the Australian Open in Melbourne because he had been expelled from the country the day before the tournament started due to the lack of vaccination. The 34-year-old had flown to Australia on the assumption that he would be allowed into the country with a medical exemption. A federal court, however, decided otherwise.
Djokovic himself recently stated that he would be willing to give up possible further Grand Slam titles in order to control his own body. He made his season debut at the ATP tournament in Dubai at the end of February and failed in the quarterfinals, which resulted in the loss of first place in the world rankings. The new number one is the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
