Djokovic, who gave Botic van de Zandschulp no chance in the second round, defeated Russian Karen Chatsjanov in two sets: 6-4, 6-3. Medvedev was far too strong for Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut: 6-1, 6-1.
Djokovic, winner of 21 Grand Slam titles, is on a strong streak. The 35-year-old Serb won Wimbledon and also triumphed at the Tel Aviv ATP tournament last week. He won six of his ten previous duels with Medvedev. Last year, however, Djokovic had to bow in three sets in the final of the US Open for the Russian, who took his first grand slam title in New York. Medvedev (26) is currently the number 4 in the world, Djokovic is in seventh place.
