17th place in the Premier League
Nottingham Forest have parted ways with coach Steve Cooper after more than two years. The relegation-threatened Premier League club announced this on Tuesday. Forest had recently only managed one win from 13 league games and had slipped to 17th place in the table. A successor to the 44-year-old Cooper will be announced at a later date, it was said.
The Portuguese is apparently considered a hot candidate for the coaching position Nuno Espirito Santo. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks have already taken place with the 49-year-old, who was released from the Saudi Al-Ittihad club at the beginning of November to include stars such as Karim Benzema, Fabinho and N’Golo Kanté. Before Espírito Santo, names such as former Bundesliga coach Oliver Glasner, Julen Lopetegui and Marco Silva were also considered candidates in Nottingham.

Cooper took over the position at the then second division team in September 2021 and finished fourth in his first season and thus reached the promotion play-offs with the team. There Forest beat Huddersfield Town in the final and were promoted to the Premier League. “Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his outstanding contribution to our football club,” club boss Evangelos Marinakis was quoted as saying in the statement: “His success in leading Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the club’s history.”
