Notorious criminal in mortal danger after stabbing; friends victim smash new snack bar | Antwerp

On the Groeningerplein in the heart of Borgerhout, a fierce incident occurred between the manager of a new snack bar and an acquaintance this evening around 10 pm. The incident escalated and someone pulled out a knife and stabbed Yassin B. The man was hit in the abdomen and was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. Two others were slightly injured.

According to Wouter Bruyns of the Antwerp police, there was a lot of commotion on Groeningerplein after the stabbing.

“About thirty men apparently came to blows at the snack bar where the stabbing had just taken place. The furniture was smashed to pieces. The police arrived en masse to break up the fighters,” says Wouter Bruyns.

According to witnesses, the victim Yassin B. had come to get a story from Jamal K. who was still busy furnishing his new snack bar Eat Fast. The chairs had to be unpacked. Minor painting work was still in progress. The new business will open next week.

The reason for the quarrel is unclear. It is possible that Yassin B. himself had plans to start a catering business in that building, but he had to lose out to Jamal K. Two other people were said to have been slightly injured in the incidents.

Yassin B. stumbled out, according to witnesses, with his hands on his bleeding stomach. He was collected by friends and taken to the Stuivenberg Hospital in the car. That hospital is only two blocks away. He was operated on urgently. Yassin B. was in the news as a minor with a failed robbery in Vooruitzichtstraat in which his 17-year-old friend was stabbed to death by the elderly victim. Last year, Yassin B. made a name for himself again when he was arrested for dealing cannabis and cocaine via Snapchat.
