Notices about masks persist in the Barcelona metro after the mandatory nature is lifted

The mask is no longer mandatory on public transport this Wednesday but the passengers on the Barcelona metro can still hear messages from the public address system demanding to use it, two days after the state’s repeal of this requirement. It’s about a error that Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) is correcting this week, but that you acknowledge you won’t be able to delete right away.

Sources from the public company assure that on the platforms it has already been resolvedor the incident and theoretically this Thursday the message should no longer be heard on any station. However, on trains will still take time to resolve: “Every day it will be heard on fewer trains but it will still take time to have it deactivated on all of them,” a spokesperson points out to this newspaper. The change does not depend on the driver, but on the TMB technicians.

While the public address announcement persists, subway users are explanatory with complaints and mockery on social networks. TMB’s user service on Twitter responds to them one by one and asks them to specify the specific route on which they have heard the obsolete message.

As this newspaper reported on the first day without mandatory masks, many travelers expressed their joy at the change. “Finally” or “it was about time” were some of the most repeated comments. Almost three years after the start of the confinement, the general feeling was that the government has taken too long to make the decision. After weeks of uncertainty about the exact date, the council of ministers this Tuesday approved the repeal, which became effective the next day. Such short notice would have left TMB without sufficient room for manoeuvre.

Also in Madrid and Valencia

The Madrid or Valencia metro also issued expired warnings by mistake on Wednesday, as shown by the virtual complaints from underground users in these cities.
