“Thank you, Ash,” said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison. “Thank you for inspiring our nation, your class. Your achievements will be forever celebrated among all Australians. All the best to you and your fiancé Gerry.”
Scottish tennis player Andy Murray, a three-time grand slam winner, is happy for Barty that she has made this decision. “What a player.”
The women’s tennis association is encouraging Barty with a message on Twitter. “For every young girl who looks up to you. For everyone you have inspired. For your love of the game. Thank you for everything, Asleigh, for leaving your mark on the track, off the track and in our hearts.”
Two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova was speechless when she heard that Barty announced her retirement. ,,Ash, I have no words for it… You show real class to leave tennis in this beautiful way. I’m so glad I got to be on the track with you. Tennis will never be the same without you. I admire you as a player and person. I wish you the best!”
The Czech Karolina Pliskova will also miss Barty, she says on Twitter, just like her compatriot Kvitova. “Congratulations on your fantastic career, Ash. It was a privilege to be on the track with you. I wish you the best in your next chapter. We will miss you.”
Romanian Simona Halep is looking for words to describe Barty’s retirement. She makes an effort on Twitter. “Ash, what can I say, you know I’m in tears, don’t you? My girlfriend, I will miss you on the tour. You are different, special, we have had beautiful moments together. What’s the next thing you’re going to do? Grand slam champion in golf? Be happy and enjoy life. Big hug Simon.”
