Not immediately mergers in the making in South West Flanders

In the south of West Flanders, for example, Vincent Van Quickenborne estimates that the chance of mergers is rather small.

Vincent Van Quickenborne, title-holding mayor of Kortrijk: “To merge, it takes two to tango. You need two parties to be able to do that. As title-carrying mayor, I follow that from a distance and I don’t have the impression that much is moving now in the south of West Flanders, especially because there is already a lot of cooperation at the moment.”

A municipality like Kuurne and Kortrijk, that seems logical somehow, no? “Yes, when you talk about two municipalities or a city and a municipality, there must of course be willingness on both sides. It must also click in terms of management and people. I do not have the impression that there is much movement here with us at the moment.
