Participants are eager to participate in the so-called Beach to Beach Swim, across the Marsdiep. It is already the tenth edition and this year there will be the first swim from Texel to Den Helder. In previous years it was the other way around. It’s quite a journey. “It will be a trip of 7 to 8 kilometers”, says Amber Hogendorp of the Be Tough Foundation, the organizer of the swimming trip.

“And all for a good cause,” says Hogendorp. The participants must all raise at least 300 euros for the Den Helder Rescue Brigade. The rest of the money that is collected can also be collected for another purpose of your own choosing. Emma Riemers, for example, collects money for KiKa: “I think that’s a very nice goal and I think many people would like to sponsor it,” says Emma.

Some preparation is required for the swim from Texel to Den Helder. In the video below you can see how a number of swimmers train for the last time (text continues below the video):

Dangerous

This crossing is not just for everyone. Good preparation is essential to complete the tour. “Participants must be able to swim for about two hours in a row to be able to participate in this”, says Amber Hogendorp. But if the preparation is good, then it is not dangerous, according to Hogendorp.

The participants are not afraid for a second in the open water, but think it is beautiful: “You come across seals, boats and you regularly have to hang out to enjoy the view and the traffic around you,” says participant Miranda. Oudshoorn. Emma is also looking forward to Sunday: “It’s something you probably won’t do again. It’s quite an experience, I think it will be very beautiful. Then I swam from Texel to Den Helder, not many can do that people say.”

Next Sunday, September 11, the participants will start on Texel from 10:30 am. They will arrive at the dike near Strandpaviljoen Factor 30 in Huisduinen from 11:30 am and can use all the support. More information: https://www.texeldenhelder.nl/
