Quite a few heads are rolling at NOS Sport: the entire four-person editor-in-chief is stepping down and figurehead Tom Egbers is temporarily stepping down. His wife Janke Dekker stops as Mores’ boss.
Two days after its publication Volkskrant article about the bizarre work culture at NOS Sport, the entire four-headed editors announced tonight that they will still leave immediately. They are editor-in-chief Maarten Nooter and deputy editors-in-chief Pim Marks, Selma Schuurman and Ewoud van Winsen.
NOS Sport top gone
It was actually intended that this foursome would step down ‘phased’, but because of the size of the NOS scandal, this led to resistance from society. Gerard Timmer, the broadcaster’s general manager who was previously BNNVARA boss during the heyday of De Wereld Draait Door, confirms the immediate departure of his colleagues.
Gerard says: “Due to the discussions we have had over the past few days about the results of the inventory, the previously announced phased withdrawal has gained momentum. We are now entering a phase in which we will look at what the sports editors need in the short term and in the future.”
Tom temporarily resigns
Tom Egbers, who plays the leading role in the Volkskrant revelations, is stepping down according to the Volkskrant temporarily on. In an email to colleagues, the presenter speaks of ‘marking the place’. “He writes that he will not appear in the editorial office, mainly because his presence can disturb the peace.”
He calls the De Volkskrant revelations ‘a profoundly sad story about events and atmosphere in our workplace’. He also offers to talk to colleagues. Tonight Gert van ‘t Hof is his replacement at Studio Sport Eredivisie.
Also Janke gone
Janke Dekker, Tom’s wife, will step down immediately as chairman of Mores, the reporting center for undesirable behavior in the media. Her position has become completely untenable, especially because she trivializes the Volkskrant revelations. “If I were Janke, I wouldn’t do that,” Humberto Tan already advised her.
Now she draws her conclusions, but reluctantly. Her lawyer Richard Korver against RTL Boulevard: “What is actually not right is that people recycle an extramarital relationship from about 15 years ago, which was already in the press, as it were, and throw a cross-border sauce over it, as if Mr Egbers is the one who only did.”
Gerald stays
The fact that the general director of the NOS, Gerard Timmer, will remain, causes some question marks:
