Geiger as the best German in eighth place
The best German was once again Karl Geiger. The Oberstdorfer jumped two times to 132 meters and was eighth in the end. Geiger summed up: “It was a difficult day. The jumps were okay, but the over grenade wasn’t there now.”
Eisenbichler disqualified
The second best German on Sunday was actually Markus Eisenbichler. With jumps of 129 and 133 meters, he would have placed in the top 15. But shortly after his jump he was disqualified because of his suit.
Wellinger with caution sign
Andreas Wellinger got into the conversation with at least one good jump for a team nomination. The Bavarian improved after 127.5 meters in the first to 131.5 meters and 19th place in the second round. “I would be extremely happy”, Wellinger said at the sports show microphone about a possible participation in the team jumping: “But it’s a tough decision because we’re all jumping at the same level.”
Stephan Leyhe (126/129 meters) was 22nd, Constantin Schmid (124.5 / 131 meters) 23rd, Pius Paschke (123.5 / 128.5 meters) also collected World Cup points as 28th.
Severin Freund and the “scrubbed fall”
Severin Freund experienced a little drama. The veteran, who had only fought his way back into the World Cup team before the turn of the year, jumped 128 meters. When the German coaching team was about to clap their successful jump, Freund fell in the run.
“Clean scrub” that was it, said Freund in the sports show and couldn’t explain the fall: “I felt I was already standing on the telemark, in the next moment I was lying down”, friend was annoyed, because if he had confessed to it, “then you could have made something nice out of it in the second round”.
Team competition on Sunday
The ski jumping week in Bischofshofen ends on Sunday with a team competition. The team line-up was not yet known on Sunday evening.
