Norway puts Olympic plans on hold

Norway has put its plans for another Winter Olympics bid on hold.

Berit Kjöll, President of the National Olympic and Paralympic Committee, gave the overall socio-political situation as the reason for this. “It is not the time to pursue this matter any further. That is common sense,” she told the daily newspaper Verdens Gang.

In principle, she welcomes the fact that a winter sports nation like Norway is trying to host the games at certain intervals, said Kjöll. However, sports, politics and the population would have to fully support an application. Currently this is not the case. “Things can change quickly,” emphasized Kjöll.

Norway has hosted two Winter Games, Oslo in 1952 and Lillehammer in 1994. Since then there have been several attempts for a third application. In autumn 2014, for example, the “Oslo 2022” project failed.
