Norway demands tougher action in skiing – the country does not want Russians

The Norwegians have sent a letter to the FIS demanding action from the union.

Russia’s hostilities in Ukraine are reflected in sport. The International Ski Federation FIS announced on Friday that it had taken all ski competitions out of Russia.

The Russians will be allowed to compete in the ongoing Salpausselä Games in Finland, but the Russian national anthem will not be played in Lahti and the Russian flag will not be raised. The blocking line follows the FIS line.

The Norwegian Ski Association is calling for even stronger action.

– The Norwegian Ski Association has decided that we do not want to allow Russian or Russian athletes to compete in future competitions in our country due to the current world situation, the association informs.

President of the Norwegian Ski Association Erik Röste commented to the Norwegian NRK.

– Sport cannot remain passive and neutral when we see how Ukrainians suffer. That is why our union is calling for tougher action, Röste said.
